Less Touristy Italy
Eat, Discover, explore

A blog for those who don’t like beaten paths

About me.

Who am I?

My name is Małgorzata.

Some time ago I turned 50 and then more, so I am a middle-aged woman. I would lie if I said that age is just a number, so I realize that ultramarathons or Mount Everst are probably not for me anymore, but I will conquer many smaller peaks. And I still have a lot to see and do.

Italy is the 5th country I have had the opportunity to live in.

I spent almost half of my life in Poland, then I moved with my son and now ex-husband to Greece. After Greece I spent a few more years in Cyprus, and then even more in Scotland, where I still live from time to time. Since I fell in love again, and I am brave, I moved to Manfredonia in Puglia, where I currently live with my Italian partner Mauro. Everything you read here is a combination of my experiences (I do not write about things/places I have not been to) and his first-hand knowledge.

Before Manfredonia, I taught English in private schools in Naples and Termoli for several months. Is Italy my last stop? I don’t think so, but for now I’m still here.

From living in different countries I have been left with fluent knowledge of 5 languages and collecting experiences. This is my hobby, apart from that I am busy with running 3 blogs, learning – including languages (currently Hungarian and Mandarin), opening mini-businesses and visiting, preferably not very touristy, places. In addition, I like to try new dishes, but I do not like cooking. I prefer difficult tasks, easy ones bore and annoy me. I love hiking and mountain climbing (more conquering peaks than climbing itself), and my highest mountain so far is Corno Grande, i.e. I climbed 2912 m.

Generally, I think that it is worth trying to do what you like and seizing opportunities waiting for everyone who is curious, adventurous, motivated and ready to accept them.

What I'm writing about?

About the places I’ve been to in Italy. There are so many of them that I decided to share them with the world. I prefer discovering new areas, not traveling where everyone else does (but I also visit the well-known places) and I want to encourage you to look at Italy a little differently than through the prism of stereotypes and popular tourist destinations like Rome, Florence or Venice.

I like nature and hiking, so you will find a lot of posts on this topic here. In addition, I will share my impressions of living in the south of this country. You will find out if magical Italy is really as magical as it is commonly believed. Since I like to eat, I also write about less popular Italian food.

I hope that Unknown Italy will provide you with the necessary data for exploring Italy, and the time saved on searching for information will be spent exploring Italy.

And since I don’t only travel around Italy, you’ll occasionally find posts about places in other countries. If you like to forge your own paths, this blog is for you.

I’m quite busy; posts appear once or twice a week, depending on how much time I have.

While you’re waiting for new information, you can follow me on Facebook and Instagram. You can also receive notifications of new posts by email

Enjoy discovering lesser-known Italy!
